Laurel House
FHC supports the "Laurel House" as they provide temporary housing and care to teenage girls at risk of becoming homeless or have a history of running away due to volatile family situations at home. Over 90% of them come from a history of sexual abuse or assault (not by an immediate family member). As a method of coping with their pain, a majority of them turn to drug/alcohol abuse or sexual promiscuity, causing strife and friction at home with their parents. Some of these girls are struggling with mental or emotional disorders that have yet to be diagnosed and treated. These girls are given a temporary place to live in Laurel House, providing a structured “cooling off’ period between them and their families. They receive intensive counseling and treatment with the ultimate goal of reunifying the families upon completion of the T.E.E.N.S. program where Teenagers are Empowered, Equipped and Nurtured to Succeed. Our mission is “to support teens in crisis and their families, and to encourage family reconciliation or resolution by providing temporary residential care for teenagers, serving their physical, emotional and spiritual needs in a Christian home environment.” Laurel House wants these girls to aspire to live for today and hope for tomorrow by not dwelling in the past.
